Test 2, Coil Lead & Spark Quality Check
1. Turn ignition switch to the On position, but do not start the engine.
2. Using a suitable volt-ohmmeter, check ignition coil primary voltage.
3. Ignition coil positive lead should read at least battery voltage. The negative lead should read a minimum of six volts.
4. If voltage reading is as specified, proceed to step 5 of this test.
5. If voltage reading is not as specified, repair or replace wiring harness as needed.
6. Connect spark tester to the distributor high tension wire lead and ground. Crank the engine and watch for spark to jump tester air gap.
7. If spark is satisfactory, proceed to Test 4.
8. If spark is unsatisfactory, proceed as follows:
a. Inspect ignition coil and module for carbon tracking or damage.
b. Check resistance of ignition coil high tension, replace if greater than 5,000 ohms per ft.
c. If resistance meets specifications, proceed to Test 3.
