Driver's Power Seat - Fore And Aft Looseness

SEAT-DRIVER'S-POWER SEAT LOOSENESS

FORD: 1989 PROBE


ISSUE: A driver's power seat that slightly moves forward or backward when accelerating or decelerating may be caused by play in the seat track assembly.

ACTION: Tighten the retaining nuts at the forward ends of the slide screws. Also adjust the width of the seat track slide bracket. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Remove the Driver's seat. Refer to the Probe Shop Manual, Section 41-08 for service details.

2. Position the seat upside down.

3. Position the washers at the forward ends of the slide screws so the retaining nuts can be turned, Figure 1.
4. Tighten the retaining nuts to a torque of 1 N-m.

5. Re-position the washers on the slide screws to prevent the retaining nuts from loosening.

6. Remove the E-rings on each side of the seat track as shown in Figure 2.

7. Pull out the shafts from the slide brackets.

8. Remove the nut from each bracket.

9. Adjust the width of the brackets so that the play is removed. (Bend them with pliers as required.)

10. Reinstall each nut. Check to see that the rubber is installed.

11. Insert the shafts and install the E-rings.

12. Install the seat in the vehicle. Refer to the 1989 Probe Shop Manual, Section 41-08 for service details.
