Trip Computer: Description and Operation
The Trip Computer is an optional item on the LX and GT models. It is composed of a Trip Computer Display, Keyboard, Electronic Tone Generator and sensors. It is located in the center of the dash and is covered by a protective lid which must be lifted to access the system.
With the Ignition Switch in the ON position, the driver can command a variety of information to be displayed. Each key depressed gives a tone confirming that the function has been selected. The following calculations are provided by the Trip Computer.

NOTE: All fuel data is supplied by the Engine control Assembly (ECA) and speed signals via the speed sensor.
The operation of the individual buttons is as follows:
A/ECON
This button displays the average vehicle fuel economy since the last reset. To reset press RESET once.
I/ECON
This button displays the instantaneous vehicle fuel economy based on the distance traveled.
DTE
This button displays an estimated distance that can be driven with the remaining fuel.
EX TMP
This button displays the air temperature outside the vehicle.
METRIC
This button converts the units of measurement displayed from Metric to English and back with each press.
AV-SPD
The AV-SPD button displays the average speed of the vehicle since the last reset. To reset, press RESET once.
DEST
The DEST button displays the miles (kilometers) remaining to a preset destination. To enter the distance planned to be traveled, press DEST once and then press and hold SET for one second or longer. An alarm will sound for eight times and the display will rear - SET KM. With the numbered buttons ion the Keyboard, enter the distance. The display will return to the set mode and an alarm will sound once. After entering correct distance to be traveled, press the SET button again to secure data. Press DEST at any time during travel to see the remaining distance to the destination.
E/TIME
The E/TIME button displays the elapsed time in hours and minutes since the last reset. To reset elapsed time to zero, press RESET once. The elapsed travel time will continue to count even though the engine is off (when the Ignition Switch in ON).
ETA
The ETA button displays the estimated time of arrival at the destination previously entered with the DEST button assuming you continue to drive at the current vehicle speed. The estimated time of arrivals is updated every minute.
The following indicators should appear on the screen next to the numbers:

Time remaining until preset destination is reached.

Preset destination time reached.

Time past preset destination time.
OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DISPLAY
With the Ignition Switch in ACCY or the RUN position, current is applied to the Trip Computer. When the EXTMP button on the Trip Computer Keyboard is pressed, the outside temperature is displayed.
The display can be changed from "F" to "C" by pressing the METRIC button on the Trip Computer Keyboard. The display illumination will dim when the Headlamp Switch is in the ON position. Brightness is controlled by the Headlamp Dimmer Switch.
