Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation
POWER MOONROOF -- HOW THE CIRCUIT WORKSThe Moonroof system employs the Moonroof Relay, Moonroof Switch and Moonroof Motor assembly. This Moonroof is capable of tilting up, or sliding open.
Tilt
With the Moonroof closed, the Moonroof Limit Switch is in the closed position. When the Moonroof Tilt Up and Slide switch is engaged, voltage from the Moonroof Fuse is applied to the Moonroof Motor. The Moonroof Relay is energized, completing a ground path from the BK wire, through the Moonroof Switch, Y/BL wire, Moonroof Relay contacts and the Y wire to the Moonroof Motor. When the roof reaches the "TILT UP" position, the Limit Switch opens. The ground path to the Relay is interrupted, causing the Moonroof to momentarily stop.
Open
With the Moonroof in the "TILT UP" position and the Moonroof Switch in the "TILT UP" and "SLIDE" position, voltage is applied to the Moonroof Motor and a ground path is applied to the Moonroof Motor via the relay contacts. The Moonroof moves as long as the switch is held or until the Moonroof is fully open (Limit Switch closed).
Close
With the Moonroof in the "OPEN" position and the Moonroof Switch in the "CLOSE" position, voltage is applied to the Moonroof Relay's solid state circuits, signaling the relay to energize. Voltage is applied to the Moonroof Motor via the Moonroof Switch, the Moonroof Relay's closed contacts, the Y/BL wire and the Y wire. The Moonroof Motor is grounded through the Y/R wire and the Moonroof Switch. The Moonroof moves toward the closed position.
