Child Seat Tether Attachment: Service and Repair

Tether Attachment Location:

The child safety seat tether attachment must be bolted to the rear luggage compartment wall panel.

Removal
1. Open the liftgate and remove the luggage compartment hold down net, if equipped.

Tether Attachment Location:

2. Remove the plug, child safety seat tether anchor bolt, child safety seat tether attachment and spacer from the rear luggage compartment wall panel.

WARNING: IF THE CHILD SAFETY BELT ANCHOR TETHER BOLT IS REMOVED, THE HOLE MUST BE SEALED TO PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.

Installation

WARNING:

- WHEN USING ANY INFANT OR CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER CONCERNING ITS INSTALLATION AND USE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW EACH OF THE RESTRAINT MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS CAN RESULT IN A CHILD STRIKING THE VEHICLE'S INTERIOR DURING A SUDDEN STOP OR COLLISION.

- IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE BOLT/ANCHOR BE SECURELY TIGHTENED TO SPECIFICATION. OTHERWISE, THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY SECURED AND THE CHILD COULD BE INJURED IN CASE OF A SUDDEN STOP OR ACCIDENT.

A child safety belt anchor tether kit must be installed to use a child safety seat in a rear seat position. A child safety seat used in the front seat position must be tethered to a rear seat safety belt. Install a child safety seat tether attachment to accommodate a child safety belt anchor tether kit as follows:

1. Insert the 10 mm (0.4 inch) spacer provided with the child safety belt anchor tether kit between the child safety seat tether attachment and the rear luggage compartment wall panel.





2. Install the 8 mm child safety seat tether anchor bolt provided with the child safety belt anchor tether kit, making sure that at least five threads engage in the rear luggage compartment wall panel. Be sure the child safety seat tether attachment is within a 30 degree angle.

Tighten the child safety seat tether anchor bolt to 38-78 Nm (28-58 lb-ft).

WARNING: SOME CHILD RESTRAINTS SUPPLY A NON-METRIC BOLT WITH A DIFFERENT THREAD. DO NOT USE A NON-METRIC BOLT AS IT MAY BE IMPOSSIBLE TO SCREW IT ALL THE WAY INTO THE HOLE, RESULTING IN INADEQUATE RETENTION OF THE CHILD RESTRAINT.

3. Install the luggage compartment hold down net, if equipped.
