Brake Pad: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove approximately two-thirds of the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
Pry Disc Caliper Open:
4. Using an appropriate tool, pry the front disc brake caliper open.
Move Brake Hose Out Of The Way:
5. Remove the brake caliper bolt. Pivot the front disc brake caliper upwards. Slide the front disc brake caliper off the guide pin.
CAUTION: Position the front brake hose out of the way of the front disc brake caliper casting to avoid damaging the front brake hose.
6. Using a piece of wire, support the front disc brake caliper from the front coil spring.
7. Remove the two anti-rattle springs.
8. Remove the shims. Tag the shims so they can be reinstalled in their original positions.
Remove Brake Shoes And Linings:
9. Remove the brake pads from the front disc brake caliper anchor plate. Remove the two clips.
CAUTION: Use care to prevent damage to the front disc brake caliper piston dust cover.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the clips.
NOTE: If the brake pads are to be reused, inspect the linings and measure the thickness.
2. Install the brake pads into the front disc brake caliper anchor plate. The brake pads with the wear indicator is the inboard brake shoe and lining.
Brake Shoes And Linings:
3. Install the shims in their original positions.
4. Install the front disc brake caliper onto the guide pin and pivot the front disc brake caliper down over the brake pads.
5. Install the anti-rattle springs.
Brake Caliper Bolt:
6. Install the brake caliper bolt and tighten to 44-49 Nm (33-36 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Tighten the lug nuts to 88-118 Nm (65-87 ft. lbs.).
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Pump the brake pedal several times to position the front disc brake caliper piston.
10. Correct the level of brake fluid in the brake master cylinder.
11. Road test the vehicle to ensure proper brake operation.
