Brake Drum: Description and Operation

The drum brake system includes:
^ Brake drums
^ Rear axle wheel hub retainers
^ Brake shoe retracting springs
^ Brake shoe hold-down springs
^ Brake shoe hold-down spring pins
^ Leading brake shoes and linings
^ Trailing brake shoes and linings
^ Parking brake return springs
^ Rear wheel cylinders
^ Parking brake rear cable and conduit
^ Parking brake lever
^ Rear brake strut and quadrant
^ Brake backing plates
The rear drum brakes are a standard non-servo system with a self-energizing rear wheel cylinders mounted at the top of the brake backing plate. The brake shoes and linings are adjusted by a parking brake lever and a rear brake strut and quadrant that compensate for normal lining wear.
