Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the brake master cylinder.
2. Disconnect the vacuum booster hose from the power brake booster.
3. Working under the instrument panel, remove the spring clip from the brake pedal clevis pin.
4. Remove the brake pedal clevis pin and the master cylinder push rod fork end bracket from the brake pedal.
5. Remove the four power brake booster nuts.
6. Remove the power brake booster.
INSTALLATION
1. Have an assistant position the power brake booster on the bulkhead so the four power brake booster studs protrude through the bulkhead into the passenger compartment.
2. Working under the instrument panel, install the four power brake booster nuts. Tighten the power brake booster nuts to 19-25 Nm (14-19 ft. lbs.).
3. Apply white lithium grease to the brake pedal clevis pin and install it through the master cylinder push rod fork end bracket and the brake pedal.
4. Install the spring clip through the brake pedal clevis pin.
5. Install the vacuum booster hose to the power brake booster.
NOTE: Be sure the vacuum booster hose is installed correctly. A brake booster check valve is located in the center of the vacuum booster hose. The arrow on the vacuum booster hose must point toward the intake manifold.
6. Adjust the brake booster to master cylinder push rod. Install the brake master cylinder.
