Radiator: Description and Operation

WARNING: STAY CLEAR OF THE FAN BLADE AT ALL TIMES AS AN INCREASE IN COOLANT TEMPERATURE MAY CAUSE THE ELECTRIC COOLING FAN TO SUDDENLY OPERATE EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING.

NOTE: The radiators utilize an expansion joint that may be mistaken for a separation. The joints appear as a gap or saw cut in the aluminum rails that run across the top and bottom of the radiator core. The joints are needed to allow for expansion and contraction of the radiator, and they should not be eliminated. Do not mistake the function of the joints in the radiator.

The radiator is a brazed aluminum fin-and-tube type design arranged for crossflow of the engine coolant. Nylon end tanks on each end of the core allow uniform distribution of engine coolant to the radiator tubes. The nylon end tanks are attached to the aluminum core by bending tabs on the core header over the foot (edge) of the nylon tank. A rubber O-ring gasket is placed between the nylon tank and the radiator core header to achieve a seal between the tank and the radiator core header. The nylon tanks are a moulded one-piece design with mounting brackets as a part of each tank.
