Thermostat: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. A Remove the engine air cleaner intake tube and the engine air cleaner (ACL).





4. Remove the lower radiator hose from the lower water pipe and radiator.





5. Remove the lower water pipe bolt.





6. Pull the lower water pipe away from the water hose connection.
7. Remove the two water hose connection bolts.
8. Remove the water hose connection from the vehicle. Discard the O-ring.
9. Remove the water thermostat from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Clean the water hose connection and cylinder block mating surfaces.





2. Aligning the water thermostat tab to the cylinder block water hose connection notch, install the water thermostat.
3. Install the water hose connection. Tighten the water hose connection bolts to 19-25 Nm (14-18 ft. lbs.).
4. Install a new water hose connection O-ring and push the lower water pipe into the water hose connection.





5. Install the lower water pipe bolt. Tighten the lower water pipe bolt to 19-25 Nm (14-18 ft. lbs.).
6. Connect the lower radiator hose to the lower water pipe and the radiator.

CAUTION: Make sure that hose clamps are beyond the bead and centered on the sealing surface. Do not reuse hose clamps; use a new clamp to insure proper sealing.

7. Connect the battery ground cable.
8. Fill the cooling system.
9. Start the engine and check for leaks.
