Engine: Description and Operation

The six cylinder 2.5L engine consists of:
^ Aluminum 60 degree, two-piece, cylinder block
^ Two overhead camshafts per cylinder head
^ Four valves per cylinder
^ Maintenance-free hydraulic lash adjuster (HLA)

This engine incorporate a closed-type positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system and exhaust emission control system.

To maintain the required exhaust emission levels, the fuel system, ignition system, and engine must be kept in good operating condition and meet recommended adjustment specifications.

Make sure the part(s) are not serviceable before replacing damaged or worn engine components such as the following:
^ Crankshaft
^ Cylinder Heads
^ Valve Guides
^ Valves
^ Camshafts
^ Cylinder Block

WARNING: TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, DO NOT OPERATE THE ENGINE WITH THE HOOD OPEN UNTIL THE FAN HAS FIRST BEEN EXAMINED FOR POSSIBLE CRACKS AND SEPARATION.
