Oil Cooler: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Drain the engine coolant.
2. Place the drain pan under the oil filter area.
WARNING: IF THE ENGINE IS HOT, THE OIL WILL BE HOT.
3. Use an oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter. Make sure the old oil filter gasket is removed with the oil filter.
4. Remove the two oil cooler hoses from the engine on cooler.
5. Remove the oil cooler mounting bolt insert and remove the engine oil cooler and oil cooler gasket. Discard the oil cooler gasket.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the engine oil cooler with an oil cooler gasket on the oil filter adapter. Install the oil cooler mounting bolt insert. Tighten the oil cooler mounting boll insert to 25-34 Nm (19-25 ft. lbs.).
2. Install the oil cooler hoses on the engine oil cooler.
3. Apply a thin bead of clean engine oil to the oil filter gasket.
4. Install the oil filter on the engine oil cooler. Tighten the oil filter by hand until the gasket contacts the engine oil cooler base.
5. Tighten the oil filter 1 and 1 /6 turns after the gasket contacts the engine oil cooler base.
6. Refill the cooling system with the specified amount and type of engine coolant.
7. Check the engine oil level. Add oil as required to bring to the specified level.
8. Start the engine and check for leaks.
