ABS Light: Description and Operation

The anti-lock brake warning indicator will come ON to warn the driver of an anti-lock brake system (ABS) failure. Normal brake system operation will still be available. However, the wheels will lock up under a hard stop. In the case with past failures, the next time the engine is started, if the ABS control module verifies that the system is normal, the ABS warning light goes out. However, with malfunctions in the ABS wheel-speed sensor circuit, verification cannot be done without driving the vehicle. Drive the vehicle at over 20 km/h [12.4 mph], and if the system is verified to be normal, the warning light goes out.
