Cigarette Lighter: Description and Operation

The cigar lighter knob and element has a low resistance heating coil which becomes red hot when battery voltage passes through it.

When the cigar lighter knob and element is pushed completely in, an electric circuit is closed and current flows through the heating coil to ground. When sufficient heat is generated, the cigar lighter knob and element will overcome the spring pressure of the bimetal fingers and be released.

The instrument panel ash receptacle is located in the center of the console finish panel under the console panel ash receptacle door.
