Fuel Gauge: Description and Operation

The fuel gauge is identified by the fuel pump symbol on the gauge face. It is located to the left of the speedometer and above the coolant temperature gauge. All models are equipped with a 15.9 gallon fuel tank and all use the same fuel gauge.

The fuel gauge pointer is attached to a wire-wound bimetal strip which responds to current provided by the fuel level sensor. When the current is low, there is little heating effect in the bimetal strip and the pointer moves a short distance. As the current increases, it produces a greater heating effect and causes the pointer to move a greater distance.
