Odometer: Description and Operation

Odometer
WARNING: NEVER CORRECT SPEEDOMETER READINGS BY CHANGING DRIVE GEARS UNLESS THE ODOMETER IS ALSO OFF.
The final drive ratio of the transaxle must be known in order to select or check if the proper speedometer/odometer drive and driven gears are present.
The speedometer/odometer drive gear is located inside the transaxle and is not easily accessed for change. Front wheel drive vehicles generally do not offer different gears for correction.
Odometer Replacement
The mileage on the replacement speedometer cannot be reset. If a replacement speedometer is installed, a label recording the vehicle's mileage and date at the time of the speedometer replacement must be attached to the driver's door jam.
Trip Odometer
The Probe is equipped with two odometers, each housed within the speedometer. The top primary odometer shows the vehicle's cumulative distance, reads to six digits and does not have a tenths indicator. The tenths indicator is housed in the trip odometer, which is just below the primary odometer. The trip odometer reads to four digits and can be reset by pushing the post that extends through the instrument cluster lens between the speedometer and tachometer.
