Deflection Adjustment

1. Apply 98 N (22 lb) of pressure to the drive belt at a point midway between the power steering pump pulley and the water pump pulley.
NOTE: Always check the belt deflection when the engine is cold, or has been stopped for at least 30 minutes. A drive belt is considered new if it has been used on a running engine for less than five minutes.
2. The drive belt deflection should measure 6.0-7.0 mm (0.24-0.27 inch) for a new belt, 7.0-8.0 mm (0.28-0.31 inch) for a used belt. The limit of deflection is 9.0 mm (0.35 inch).
