Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify customer concern by running the engine.
2. Inspect the drive belts for cracks, fraying and wear.
3. Check that the drive belts are correctly mounted and properly adjusted.

Under severe operating conditions (high temperatures, low humidity), drive belt rib cracking can occur at less than 48,000 km (30,000 miles). Drive belt rib cracking is not a reason for concern and has no detrimental effect on belt performance. The drive belt is still perfectly functional until rib "chunking" occurs. Drive belt "chucking" is where the rubber material actually chunks out between the cracks. The drive belt should be replaced if chunking occurs.
