Radiator Hose: Testing and Inspection

The most frequent cooling system concerns deal with overheating and leakage. If available, use Rotunda Fluorescent Tracer Dye 164-R3707 or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M99C/03-A, to help diagnose the cooling system. Follow the instructions given with the tester for proper usage.

1. Turn the ignition switch ON, and start the engine.
2. Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
4. Check for leakage at the following locations:
a. All hoses and hose connections
b. The radiator seams, radiator core, and radiator draincock
c. All engine block plugs
d. The edges of all the engine cooling system gaskets
e. The water pump
f. The radiator coolant recovery reservoir
9. The radiator cap
h. The vehicle heating system components

5. Examine the oil level dipstick for evidence of coolant contamination in the engine.
6. Check the radiator for evidence of engine oil contamination in the coolant.
