Power Steering Pump: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
The power steering system uses hydraulic pressure generated by the power steering pump to reduce the effort required to turn the steering wheel.

OPERATION
When the engine is running, power steering fluid is drawn into the power steering pump from the power steering pump reservoir. The fluid is sent to the steering gear where it is used to reduce steering effort. The power steering pump uses a remote power steering pump reservoir which is mounted in front of the RH engine support insulator. The power steering pump is serviced as an assembly.
