System

1. Always flush the steering gear when replacing the power steering pump due to fluid contamination. Install the power steering pump. Flush the power steering pressure hose before installing. Connect only the power steering pressure hose.
2. Place the power steering return hose from the steering gear in a container, and plug the power steering reservoir pump hose.
3. Fill the power steering pump reservoir with Premium Power Steering Fluid E6AZ-19582-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESW-M2C33F.
4. Disconnect the two distributor electrical connectors and raise the front wheels off the ground.
5. While adding approximately 1.9 liters (2.0 quarts) of fluid, turn the ignition switch to the START position and crank the engine with the starter motor while turning the steering wheel from left to right.
6. When all the fluid has been added, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and connect the two distributor electrical connectors.
7. Remove the plug from the power steering return hose and attach the power steering return hose to the power steering pump reservoir.
8. Check the fluid level. Add fluid if necessary. Do not overfill the power steering pump reservoir.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Start the engine and allow it to run for several minutes.
11. Turn the steering wheel from lock-to-lock without hitting the stops to expel any trapped air.
12. Turn off the engine, and check the fluid level. Add Power steering fluid as needed.
