Steering Shaft: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the steering column.
2. Release the two protective cover nut cap tabs and remove the protective cover from the steering column tube boot plate.
3. Pull the lower steering column shaft dust boot loose from the steering column tube boot plate and position it out of the way to gain access to the lower steering column shaft-to-steering column lower yoke bolt.
4. Remove the lower steering column shaft-to-steering column lower yoke bolt.
5. Remove the lower steering column shaft.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the lower steering column shaft.
2. Install the lower steering column shaft-to-steering column lower yoke bolt. Do not tighten the lower steering column shaft-to-steering column lower yoke bolt fully.
3. Install the steering column.
4. Tighten the lower steering column shaft-to-steering column lower yoke bolt to 18-26 Nm (13-20 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the lower steering column shaft dust boot onto the steering column tube boot plate.
6. Install the protective cover onto the steering column tube boot plate and fasten the protective cover nut cap tabs.
