Geartrain
TURBINE SHAFTThe turbine shaft (input shaft) connects the torque converter to the transaxle geartrain.
PARKING PAWL
The parking pawl locks onto the output shaft, locking the differential to the transaxle case.
OUTPUT GEAR
The output gear connects the front sun shell to the differential through the idler gear.
OUTPUT GEAR
The output gear connects the front sun shell to the differential through the idler gear.
IDLER GEAR
The idler gear rides between the output shaft and the differential, reversing the gear rotation from the output shaft.
DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY
The differential uses an open-type design that provides operation in the following ways:
^ Both drive axles rotate with transmitted torque at the same speed when the vehicle is moving in a straight ahead path.
^ Each drive axle rotates with the transmitted torque at a different speed when the vehicle is cornering.
^ If one drive axle is stationary, then the other axle rotates with transmitted torque.
