Shift Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the console finish panel.
3. Remove the heater case.
4. Remove the four transmission control selector dial bezel screws and lift the transmission control selector dial bezel away from the transmission range selector.
5. Use a screwdriver or suitable tool to pry the shift cable and bracket from the transmission range selector.
6. Remove the lock tab cover. Squeeze the lock tabs on the shift cable and bracket and remove the shift cable and bracket from the transmission range selector.
7. Pry the shift cable return clip from the bulkhead.





8. Remove the two shift cable and bracket grommet nuts securing the shift cable and bracket grommet to the bulkhead.
9. Remove the engine air cleaner (ACL).





10. Remove the lock tab cover.





11. Use a screwdriver or suitable tool to pry the shift cable and bracket from the manual control shift outer lever, at the Transmission Range (TR) switch.
12. Remove the shift cable and bracket from the control selector cable bracket. Press in on the lock tabs to release the shift cable and bracket, then pull shift cable and bracket through the control selector cable bracket.
13. Remove the shift cable and bracket from the vehicle.
14. Remove the two shift cable bracket bolts.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the two shift cable bracket bolts.
2. Position the shift cable and bracket through the opening in the bulkhead.
3. Insert the shift cable and bracket through the control selector cable bracket and pull the shift cable and bracket until the lock tabs engage.
4. Install the lock tab cover.
5. Install the shift cable and bracket on the manual control shift outer lever.

NOTE: The manual control shift outer lever is located on the TR switch.

6. Install the engine air cleaner.
7. Position the shift cable and bracket grommet on the two studs. Tighten the shift cable and bracket grommet nuts to 8-10 Nm (71-88 inch lbs.).
8. Attach the shift cable return clip to the bulkhead.
9. Insert the shift cable and bracket through the transmission range selector and pull the shift cable and bracket until the lock tabs engage.
10. Install the shift cable and bracket on the transmission range selector.
11. Install the transmission control selector dial bezel and the four transmission control selector dial bezel screws. Tighten the transmission control selector dial bezel screws to 2-2.9 Nm (17-26 inch lbs.).
12. Install the heater case.
13. Adjust the shift cable and bracket.
14. Install the console finish panel.
15. Connect the battery ground cable.
