Pre-Main Control Valve Body, Overhaul

NOTE: The individual valves and springs are removed by removing the stop pins and stop plugs. The valves will slide in and out under their own weight. Be careful not to damage the valves. Clean as necessary. Apply the specified automatic transmission fluid (ATF) to all Darts and bores





DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the pressure modifier accumulator spring retainer as shown.
2. Remove the pressure modifier accumulator spring and the pressure modifier accumulator valve.
3. Remove the 3-2 timing valve stop pin, 3-2 timing valve stop plug, 3-2 timing valve, and the 3-2 timing spring.
4. Remove the line pressure cutback valve stop pin, line pressure cutback valve stop plug, line pressure cutback valve A, line pressure cutback valve B. and the line pressure cutback spring.
5. Remove the bypass valve stop pin, the bypass valve stop plug, the bypass valve, and the bypass spring.





6. Remove the four 1-2 accumulator plate bolts, the 1-2 accumulator plate, and the 1-2 accumulator gasket. Discard the 1-2 accumulator gasket.





7. Remove the 1-2 accumulator spring and 1-2 accumulator piston





8. Remove the eight N-R accumulator plate bolts, the N-R accumulator plate, and the N-R accumulator gasket. Discard the N-R accumulator gasket.
9. Remove the N-R accumulator springs and N-R pistons.
10. Clean and inspect pre-main control valve body.

ASSEMBLY
1. Install the N-R accumulator pistons and N-R springs.
2. Install a new N-R accumulator gasket, the N-R accumulator plate, and the eight N-R accumulator plate bolts. Tighten the N-R accumulator plate bolts to 6.5-7.8 Nm (58-69 inch lbs.).
3. Install the 1-2 accumulator piston and 1-2 accumulator spring.
4. Install a new 1-2 accumulator gasket, the 1-2 accumulator plate, and the four 1-2 accumulator plate bolts. Tighten the 1-2 accumulator plate bolts to 6.5-7.8 Nm (58-69 inch lbs.).
5. Install the bypass spring, bypass valve, bypass valve stop plug, and the bypass valve stop pin.
6. Install the line pressure cutback spring, line pressure cutback valve B. line pressure cutback valve A, line pressure cutback valve stop plug, and line pressure cutback valve stop pin.
7. Install the 3-2 timing spring, 3-2 timing valve, 3-2 timing valve stop plug, and the 3-2 timing valve stop pin.
8. Install the pressure modifier accumulator valve, pressure modifier accumulator spring, and the pressure modifier accumulator spring retainer.
