DESCRIPTIONSelf Adjusting The self adjusting clutch system eliminates the need for maintenance adjustments. It provides for consistent pedal height throughout the service life of the clutch. Hydraulic The Probe hydraulic clutch control system consists of:
^ Brake master cylinder reservoir
^ Clutch master cylinder
^ Clutch slave cylinder
^ Clutch slave cylinder to clutch master cylinder tube
^ Lower clutch slave cylinder tube
^ Hydraulic clutch hose
The brake master cylinder reservoir is mounted on the brake master cylinder.
CLUTCH PEDAL
The clutch pedal is located under the instrument panel, next to the brake pedal. The function of the clutch pedal is to manually engage and disengage the clutch pressure plate at the transaxle.
CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION (CPP) SWITCH
The clutch pedal position (CPP) switch is located at the top of the clutch pedal. When the clutch pedal is fully depressed, the CPP switch signals the powertrain control module (PCM), and if equipped, will disengage the speed control system. The CPP switch is closed when the clutch pedal is depressed and open when the clutch pedal is at rest. The CPP switch is not adjustable.
STARTER CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION (SCPP) SWITCH
The starter clutch pedal position (SCPP) switch is located near the clutch pedal. Fully depressing the clutch pedal closes the SCPP switch and allows engine cranking by turning the ignition switch to START.
CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER
The clutch master cylinder is mounted to the LH side of the bulkhead. The clutch system fluid level is checked at the brake master cylinder reservoir. The clutch master cylinder converts mechanical clutch pedal movement into hydraulic fluid movement. The fluid pressure is transmitted through the clutch slave cylinder to clutch master cylinder tube to the clutch slave cylinder.
CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER
The clutch slave cylinder is mounted on the transaxle case. The clutch slave cylinder converts the hydraulic fluid movement back to mechanical movement. This mechanical movement controls the clutch release fork and clutch release hub and bearing, allowing the engagement and disengagement of the clutch disc.
