Pilot Bearing: Testing and Inspection
1. Check the fit of the pilot bearing in the crankshaft bore.NOTE: The pilot bearing is pressed into the crankshaft and should not be loose.
2. Check the pilot bearing for misalignment and press fit condition in the crankshaft bore.
3. Visually inspect bearing surfaces (race and input shaft) for scoring, wear, and discoloration due to heating.
4. Any pilot bearing that has these symptoms should be replaced.
