Flywheel: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION1. Inspect the flywheel for cracks, heat checks, or other damage.
2. Machine the friction surface of the flywheel if scored or worn.
RUNOUT CHECK
1. Check for surface marks, scoring, or discoloration of clutch contact surface.
NOTE: Minor surface repairs can be made by cleaning with emery cloth.

2. Check the runout of the flywheel.
a. Set Dial Indicator with Bracketry Tool-4201-C or equivalent, on the clutch disc contact surface, and then turn the flywheel to measure flywheel runout. The maximum allowable runout is 0.2mm (0.008 inch).
b. If runout exceeds the maximum allowance, replace the flywheel.
3. Check for damaged or worn ring gear teeth.
